Genre: Rock

Sound description: Spiraling pedal work and emotive vocals blend elements of nu rock, ’90s grunge, and Kravitz-inspired guitar solos that seem more fit for arena shows than an open mike night, and with a recently completed demo, this foursome may be well on their way there. —The Indy

History

A band out of Southern California, they are following the footsteps of hard-charging bands that opened their listeners to what rock music was meant to be. Anapamu frontman Troy Attaway drives the band with a voice that is stunningly unique and urgent.

"I met Troy in august of 2006," says guitarist Vic Borda. "I was hanging out in a local coffee shop where Troy was working. He has his 10 minute break and busted out his acoustic guitar and started singing. I was stunned. I immediately knew I had to work with him."

Around the same time Troy met Tom Harbeson, an ace session drummer originally from Seattle. Doug Spence was pulled in on bass, knowing Vic from a previous band, and Anapamu was born.

Anapamu is a Chumash indian word meaning "rising place." "We want to life people up with our music, even as we tackle intensely emotional lyrical matter," says Troy. "I like to think of bands like Pearl Jam that went into some dark places, but always seemed to indicate a light at the end of the tunnel."
