Description: Almost one hundred years ago, in 1908, a book on the origins of Roman Baroque art by Alois Riegl (1858-1905), one of the most distinguished art historians of his time, was posthumously published. Now, with the forthcoming publication of its translation into English by Andrew Hopkins and Arnold Witte, the importance of Riegl's text to the development of Roman Baroque studies, especially in the wider context of the Mediterranean, can be evaluated.
