Santa Barbara Hispanic Achievement Council's 24th Annual Awards Banquet

Description: The SBHAC, a non-profit organization, honors and publicly recognizes the professional and service contributions of Hispanics to their community and in the process, promotes social, educational and economic parity.
Mr. Willie Galvan, a resident of the City of Santa Maria and State Commander of the American GI Forum of California, is being honored, not only for his life-long dedication to veterans organizations, but also for his work in helping young people lead healthy and productive lives and for his support of community groups which lack a voice in the public decision making process.
Mr. George Ramos, in his capacity as chair of the Cal Poly, SLO, Journalism Department, is responsible for departmental faculty and staff members and for over 200 students. Prior to assuming his position Cal Poly, he was a three-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist at the Los Angeles Times, winning in 1993 and 1994, as well as 1984, which marked the first time the award was won by a Chicano journalist.
