Barthelmess’ lecture will focus on the progression of early diving techniques, equipment, and an American entrepreneurial spirit for the marine technology industry that emerged out of Santa Barbara.
Barthelmess’ lecture topic reflects his pride and respect for Santa Barbara’s diving heritage. “Santa Barbara has many unique and diverse relationships with the marine environment,” he said. “At the very core of it is commercial diving, an entire industry with its roots embedded in this community.”
Considered the highest honor awarded to a faculty member, the lecturer is selected on the basis of outstanding classroom teaching, counseling or librarianship, and unselfish, dedicated faculty service to Santa Barbara City College.
