Description: The UCSB Center for Black Studies Research welcomes award-winning author and leading U.S. African American studies scholar Charles H. Long for the annual Shirley Kennedy Memorial Lecture.
Professor Long built and promoted the field of African Diaspora studies as a part of African American Studies and of Religious Studies. His distinguished career includes serving as the Director for the UCSB Center for Black Studies Research and as a professor at the University of Chicago, the University of North Carolina, Duke University, and Syracuse University. Many of the students whose dissertations he advised have gone on to become key scholars in African Diaspora studies and in other fields in Religious Studies.
