Description: Leo Kay, the Communications Director for the California Air Resources Board, will discuss public communication and climate change outreach challenges facing his agency as it attempts to implement California’s landmark climate change law, AB32. He will describe how his office is working with print, TV, radio, and the Web to explain how the Air Resources Board is building the country’s first regulatory program to curb greenhouse gas emissions. In a process rife with, well, process, reporters are already clamoring for results. Kay will also talk about the challenges of navigating the line between activists, who sometimes feel that not enough is being done, and members of the business community, who are expected to raise economic concerns once the regulations go into effect.
This event is presented by the Carsey-Wolf Center for Film, Television, and New Media; the Department of Communication; and the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center’s Environmental Media Research Focus Group
