Description: Santa Barbara Honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. presents “Forty Years Later, are we living the Dream?” this event will feature a key-note speaker, loads of music, local poetry award winners & much more.

The Interfaith community, the Brotherhood, the Santa Barbara African Heritage Film Series, and other community organizations of Santa Barbara have come together this year to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the 40th anniversary of his death and to celebrate his life. The day will begin with performance circles at the High School with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s ideals of Peace, Equality, Spirituality and Love. Next we will experience the memory of a march. The community will march together to Santa Barbara Jr. High School to enjoy a program in the historic Marjorie Luke Theatre. Dr Hymon Johnson, a professor at Antioch University, will be the keynote speaker and four students will read their award winning essays and poems.

Many elected officials will be present, including Congresswoman Lois Capps and Assemblyman Pedro Nava. The UCSB Gospel Choir, several predominately African American Church Choirs, and the Inner Light Gospel Choir will perform and inspire the audience with their music. Following the theatrical event, light refreshments will be served.
