Description: Developments at the News-Press over the last two years have created an especially fluid and fertile local market for providing news. Join us on June 18 for a look at the trends and the new players in the Santa Barbara news business.

Our keynote speaker is Tim Gallagher, a 30 year veteran of the newspaper business. He was the editor of the Ventura County Star from 1995 to 2004 and publisher from 2004 to 2007. The Ventura County Star is one of California’s largest circulation daily newspapers. Before moving to California in 1995 he was editor of the Albuquerque Tribune in New Mexico.

Our four presenters are all entrepreneurs in the Santa Barbara news business who founded their publications. They are Randy Campbell, publisher of the Santa Barbara Independent; Jeramy Gordon, publisher of the Santa Barbara Daily Sound; Bill Macfadyen, publisher of Noozhawk.com; and Peter Sklar, publisher of Edhat.com. Each of them will discuss their strategy, business model, and the challenges they are facing in the fast-changing Internet-influenced news world.

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Bob Johnson. Audience questions are always welcome.
