Description: Sex has become a major issue in the public sphere, both in the West and around the world. This conference will explore the ways in which the Catholic Church and the larger Christian community have politicized erotic life - abortion, divorce, homosexuality, pre-martial sex, assisted fertilization -- in the United States and Italy, two of the most religious post-industrial societies in the West. This conference is co-organized by Roger Friedland and Stefania Tutino of the Department of Religious Studies. It is co-sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center Catholic Studies Research Focus Group and Virgil Cordano Endowment in Catholic Studies in the Department of Religious Studies
