Description: Elaine Pagels, Harrington Spear Paine Professor of Religion at Princeton University, is the author of The Gnostic Gospels, an introduction to the Nag Hammadi Library which won both the National Book Critics Circle Award and the National Book Award and was chosen by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best books of the 20th Century. Her other publications include, Adam, Eve, and the Serpent, The Origin of Satan, Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas, a New York Times bestseller and, most recently, Reading Judas, also a New York Times bestseller. Pagels was awarded the Rockefeller, Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships in three consecutive years.
