Description: In conjunction with its current Nocturnes exhibition, the Wildling Art Museum is sponsoring a two-session nocturne painting workshop. The instructor is Thomas Van Stein, a S.B. landscape painter and member of the prestigious O.A.K. group, who is nationally known for his nocturnes, painted on location. Nocturnes are paintings depicting evening or night, and Van Stein has developed special techniques that allow him to paint outside at night, which was the subject of an article, Capture the Energy of the Night, in the November 1997 issue of The Artist's Magazine. Van Stein's work has also been featured in Southwest Art Magazine. The two-night workshop provides a unique opportunity for experienced artists to learn how to paint at night from the master. Aside from special lights that the students will rig on their easels and their foreheads, they will be assisted in seeing by a full moon.
