Description: Experience the wonderland of love and betrayal in this timeless tale that will linger with you long after the curtain closes. Set to one of Tchaikovsky's most enduring scores, it is one the most popular ballets of all time.
Rodney Gustafson, founder and artistic director of State Street Ballet, adapted
the 1895 version of Swan Lake by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, considered by many to be the standard of all traditional romantic ballets, to open the Company’s 15th season. Swan Lake tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse. Because surprisingly little about the original music or choreography was written down, there are many versions. For the production, State Street’s dancers will be joined by a live orchestra in the pit of The Granada conducted by Frank Paul Fetta, and full sets of intricate scenery designed and shipped from Moscow.
