Description: UCSB Arts & Lectures is proud to present Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid, a New York-based conceptual artist. DJ Spooky will present his latest work, Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica, an acoustic portrait of the rapidly changing Antarctic ice forms that incorporates his original field recordings to create a unique and powerful moment around man’s relationship with nature.
Born Paul D. Miller, DJ Spooky creates dynamic multimedia performances that mix sound and images to create compelling visuals with lush soundscapes, connecting everything and everyone on a global scale. He began recording albums and LPs in the Mid-1990s. His debut LP, Songs of a Dead Dreamer, is now widely regarded as a formative influence on illbient, a Hip-Hop sub-genre. DJ Spooky also composed the score for the 1998 film Slam, which won both the Cannes Camera D'Or and the Sundance Festival Film Festival Grand Jury Prize. Miller's first collection of essays, entitled Rhythm Science came out in 2004 and his book Sound Unbound, an anthology of writings on electronic music and digital media was recently released by MIT Press.
