Description:
Proximity Theatre Company presents its first show as a non-profit organization this summer at Center Stage Theater August 5th 9th. The show is an original piece written by our assistant director Karina Richardson. Under the direction of Kyra Lehman, Ken Urbina, and Karina Richardson, all graduates of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, the cast members are challenged to perform at professional levels incorporating many experimental theatre techniques.
The Marvellous Story of Shandy Wilkes is a love story about a young girl who is born with mirrors behind her eyes that reflect people's worst fears back at them. Using fairytale archetypes, satire, music video choreography, and movement pieces generated by the actors telling the story through sentence specific choreography, director Kyra Lehman explores the struggle to preserve human connection in a world run by fears that continually threaten to destroy it.
Written by Karina Richardson, directed by Kyra Lehman, and scored by Ken Urbina, three young artists who have spent the last year living the story they are working to tell, this piece of work should not be missed because "even though it knows it will be forgotten in the crevices of time, lives and breathes as though it will never end."
The world premiere of The Marvellous Story of Shandy Wilkes will take place at Center Stage Theater August 5th 9th at 8pm, adult tickets: $20, children under 15: $15. Special community discount shows August 6th at 8pm and August 8th at 2pm, $10.
