Jardin de las Granadas Inauguration Ceremony

When: Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, 4:30 p.m.

Where: 21 E. Anapamu St.

Cost: Not available

Age limit: Not available

Categories: Special Events

Description: The first artist chosen to design a sculpture exhibit for our city's newest park is renowned sculptor Aris Demetrios, a native of Santa Barbara County.

The unique rotating exhibit that was installed in the park — which will be a permanent feature at the location, in Santa Barbara’s Historic arts district — is the result of efforts by community leaders and the staff of Sullivan Goss Gallery (21 E. Anapamu St.) to make the new public area a venue for public art during the beginning planning stages of park's proposal.

With the collaboration of designer Katie O’Reilly, Mayor Marty Blum, County Arts Official Ginny Brush, City Agent Jeanette Candau and Sullivan Goss’ own Curator of Contemporary Art Susan Bush, the City chose Demetrios as the inaugural artist for this project. His sculptures will occupy four pedestals overlooking the park’s amphitheater.
