Description: The UCSB Department of Theater and Dance announces the world premiere of "La Niñera: The Nursemaid" by Barbara Lebow, directed by Risa Brainin. This colorful play follows the Martinez and Abelov families, descendents of poor Spanish and Russian immigrants, who find a safe haven in Cuba until the 1959 Revolution. While some family members support the new regime, others leave their adopted home, emigrate to the United States, and start anew.
Flash to 2009 CA where the new generation of Martinez/Abelovs confront the ancient family rift, always under the steady hand of their mystical and ageless niñera.
"La Niñera: The Nursemaid" performs May 15-16 & 21-23 @ 8pm and May 17 @ 2pm in the Hatlen Theatre on the campus of UC Santa Barbara.
