Description:
2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. To commemorate this milestone the museum is hosting a variety of events, including this year’s Venetian themed gala, Passport to Venice, honoring George “Geoi” Writer, a significant supporter of the museum who has been instrumental in its success, and Reynolds “Renny” Yater, one of the first commercial surfboard builders of the 1950s and a leading contributor to the surfing industry.
Along with the honorees, the gala will also be auctioning decorative masks from local designers including Emiliano Campobello of Nest Designs, Cheryl Ambrecht, Sigrid Toye and Pat Hinds, to name a few. At the Gala, the museum will showcase and auction these hand painted masks, similar to those worn during Venice’s Carnival celebration. Passport to Venice will be held at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum on March 27, 2010, beginning at 6pm. Ticket prices begin at $190.
Part of the rich and diverse culture of Santa Barbara is its maritime history. Over the past ten years the museum has played an important role in educating our community about maritime heritage and offering educational programs and interactive displays. The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is located at 113 Harbor Way, Ste. 190, Santa Barbara. For more information, visit www.sbmm.org or call 805-962-8404.
