Three-time Grammy Award winning musical group OZOMATLI will be performing a benefit concert on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the intimate, open-air Solvang Festival Theater located at 420 Second Street in downtown Solvang. Presented by Vineyard Valley Theater Company, proceeds from the concert will benefit “Youth Down 2 Business”—an educational program of the area’s Santa Ynez Valley People Helping People (www.SYVPHP.org) designed to assist high school drop-outs reconnect to school and work/career trajectories.
OZOMATLI was formed in Los Angeles in 1995 and performs a rhythmic mix of salsa, hip-hop, samba, funk, dance grooves, New Orleans jazz, reggae and more. According to concert presenter Lee Rosenberg with Vineyard Valley Theater Company, “OZOMATLI’s music takes you around the world and back again. It is a privilege to welcome this talented group to Solvang to help raise money for a very important local youth program while sharing their incredible multi-cultural musical vision and energy.”
OZO, as the band is called by their millions of world-wide fans, has produced five albums, served as the US State Department Cultural Ambassadors from 2008-10 and performed all over the planet from USA to Europe, Japan, Latin America and Africa. OZOMATLI was the first Western band to perform a concert in Nepal for 14,000 people—the largest gathering in that nation that was not a protest or religious ceremony. OZO has also written music for major motion pictures including Meet the Fockers, Heartbreak Kid, Any Given Sunday and more. On television, their enticing tunes provide soundtracks for CSI, NCIS, Sex & The City, Ugly Betty, and numerous other productions.

Advance ticket purchases are strongly encouraged as a sell-out is expected. On Friday, May 27th, the day of the show, all pre-purchased tickets may be picked up at the theater “Will Call” windows opening at 5:30pm. Gates to the Solvang Festival Theater grounds will open at 6:30pm with food & beverages available for purchase. The concert is set to begin at 8:00pm under the stars of this popular (700-seat) performing arts venue in downtown Solvang, only 35 miles from the beaches of Santa Barbara and two hours up the coast from Los Angeles.
