The book signing will take place from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the SBCC Bookstore and the reading will be held during a special buffet luncheon at the college’s Gourmet Dining Room beginning at noon.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Ms. Greenleaf, who set a large part of the book at SBCC’s School of Culinary Arts and Hotel Management. The book’s hero, Enrique Sanchez, is an aspiring chef who gets his start by attending a (made up) program at the school for high school students. Ms. Greenleaf spent a good deal of time on campus attending classes, eating in the cafeteria, and interviewing students and master chefs as well as the Culinary Arts’ Director Randy Bublitz. Mr. Bublitz makes a cameo appearance in the book as “Chef Marc.”
Good-to-Go Café is the second in Greenleaf’s series of books that aim to inspire youth who might not be geniuses in school but who could have a bright future in the “real world” with some encouragement and direction. Woven throughout each story are business, marketing, and sales tips as well as discussion of some topical issue. In the first book, Animal Kingdom, the topic is animal rights and in the second it is how we eat.
