Whitman-Stein Poetry Fest

Eight poets from Oakland to Pasadena will read their own poetry and that of other LGBTQ poets.

When: Friday, April 20, 2012, 7 p.m.

Where: SBCC, 721 Cliff Dr., Santa Barbara

Cost: Free - $5

Age limit: 18+

Categories: Event

This is an event that last year earned a standing ovation from a very mixed, mostly non-LGBTQ* SRO crowd. As much performance and community building as it is poetry, the purpose is two-fold: (1) to introduce the LGBTQ* community to the vast canon of poetry which is about their lives and (2) to allow the larger community to hear this poetry through the voices of LGBTQ* writers, offering an opportunity for a new listening experience.

The Second Annual Whitman-Stein Poetry Fest will be held at the Fe Bland Auditorium at SB City College. Everyone is welcome. $5 donation requested. Students free.

Come, laugh, cry and be ready to be surprised as we are sure to be as well.
Poets include: Fernando D. Castro, Tobey Kaplan, Giovanna Capone, Alison Reed, Kristie Soares, Terry van Vliet, Tim Tipton and host, Ron Alexander.

They will be reading their own work, as well as the work of Adrienne Rich, Allen Ginsberg, Gertrude Stein, Walt Whitman, James Baldwin and others.
