Description:
SENGA Classic Stage Company will hold auditions for The Curse of the House of Atreus, an adaptation of the Oresteia trilogy directed by Francisca Beach.
AUDITIONS: Sat. Dec. 15th and Sun. Dec. 16th 10:00 am. -12:30 pm.
Performs April 5th - 28th, 2013. Weekends. Rehearsals begin February 19th
THE CHORUS. 6/7 actors - male/female. Brilliant character actors who are featured in all 3 plays.
They play the Argive Elders (The Agamemnon), the captured royal Women of Troy (The Electra) and
The Furies (The Eumenides' Daughters of Darkness)
CLYTEMNESTRA - 50
She murders her husband Agamemnon. Queen of Argos, a shrewd, dangerous woman. A temptress. She acts and never wavers. She is a Lady Macbeth who does not crumble at the end.
THE MESSENGER 40-60
The ordinary man, the soldier. He is inordinately grateful to be able to die on his home soil. Comedic.
IPHIGENIA - 13 (not younger)
Beloved daughter of Agamemnon. Sacrificed by her father for fair winds to Troy. Sings. Dances.
ELECTRA - 28
Daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. Sister to Orestes. Since the death of her father and exile of her brother, Electra has been reduced to servitude in her own house. She nurses great bitterness and hatred for her mother. She longs for her brother to return, so that he can avenge them both and reclaim his throne. A haunted woman, she feels her youth passing away. She is A-lektra: The Unmated.
ORESTES 18-35. (he can be younger or older than Electra)
Son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. Brother to Electra. Exiled and deprived of his inheritance by his mother, he returns to avenge his father's death. Passionate and intense. He swings between madness and sanity after committing matricide.
PALLAS ATHENA 25-50.
Sister of Apollo. Daughter of Zeus - goddess of war, wisdom and crafts. Judge at Orestes' trial for the crime of matricide. She creates the first jury in Athens.
APOLLO 25-50.
Brother of Athena. God of the oracle at Delphi. He commanded Orestes to slay Clytemnestra, to put right the city of Argos. He is now Orestes' tireless proponent. Witness at the trial.
