"No One Here Except All of Us" (Riverhead books, $26.95) is Ramona Ausubel's debut novel. Her magical tale revolves around a village that tries to save itself through the sheer force of imagination - all because of an eleven-year-old girl. The book has been receiving national reviews and attention in the New York Times, O magazine and other publications. Ausubel just returns home to Santa Barbara from her national book tour for this event.
“The Splendor of Cuba” (Rizzoli Publishing, $85) is a visual tour de force of the island's stunning, yet seldom seen, architectural heritage. Written by Dr. Michael Connors, illustrated by local photographer Brent Winebrenner of Carpinteria, the book celebrates 450 years of Cuban design and style. The 320-page coffee table book (which weighs in at 5.6 pounds and contains almost 300 photos) has been recognized by the Washington Post and Daily Beast as one of the best photography books of 2011.
"The Insiders' Guide to Santa Barbara" (Globe Pequot Press, $16.95) is the newly revised and updated edition of a guidebook to Santa Barbara that includes all the usual info (accommodations, attractions, restaurants, etc.) in addition to useful information on education, retirement, and other services for newbies to SB. The new edition has been compiled by longtime Summerland-based journalist/author Leslie A. Westbrook.
