Description:

The weekend before Halloween, hundreds of costumed kids aged 2 to 12 trick-or-treat their way through a “Land of Adventure” at the Santa Barbara Zoo’s annual Boo at the Zoo. Taking its inspiration from the great explorers of the past, the Zoo is transformed into a jungle full of surprises and tasty sustainable-or-palm-oil free treats at more than 20 treat stations hosted by local community groups. Boo at the Zoo is the largest Halloween event in the Tri Counties, nearly 6,000 costumed kids and guests are expected to enjoy three nights of safe, traffic-free trick-or-treating within the Zoo.

In addition to the treats, children enjoy encounters with live khaki-clad explorers (“Dr. Livingstone, we presume?”), adventurers (ala Indiana Jones), and a cast of fairies, pirates, mermaids, and more. There are photo opportunities at Princess Palace, rides on “Montana Mike’s Jungle Train” (the Boo Choo-Choo), visits with the undead at a not-so-spooky graveyard, mazes for toddlers and youngsters, spooky storytelling, creepy crawly animal encounters, and lots of games and fun on the Zoo Hilltop. New this year: a glow-in-the-dark extravaganza, and a mystery-inspired scavenger hunt that teaches children about the importance of bats to the local ecosystem.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are on sale online and at the Zoo’s front gate.
