Ohioan was originally formed in Portland Oregon nine years ago by O Ryne Warner as a project to explore the boundaries of country music. Ohioan combines a robust songwriting talent and sensibility gleaned from the history of country with free wild improvisation, creeping minimalist drone, and occasional indulgences in The Riff. As the band has changed over the years, its line up has included members of Brainstorm, Castanets/Raymond Byron & the White Freighter, Old Time Relijun/Malaikat dan Singa, AU, Jackie-O Motherfucker, Eternal Tapestry, Ghost to Falco to name just a few. OHIOAN has also shared touring slots with Michael Hurley, Akron/Family, Castanets, Old Time Relijun, Dan Deacon, and Jolie Holland, amongst other soothsayers, noise singers and outlaw luminaries. Listening to the band, one can hear a vast array of influence, hints of Earth, Wooden Wand, Tinariwen & even a little Hank Jr. are present to the discerning ear, yet the band evades easy definition. Ohioan operates in the Sonoran Desert, near Tucson, Arizona.
