Visitors will want to begin their evening at the stadium where a gallery of student-created chalk reproductions of art masterpieces will grace the sidewalks. The stadium concession stand will be selling a limited number of picnic boxed meals, consisting of a deli sandwich, chips, water, and an apple to enjoy while viewing the art and listening to music.
Moving on to the East Tech Plaza, guests can enjoy free coffee and cookies, provided courtesy of the ROP department, as they view the latest technology in the Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) and Computer Technology and Repair labs. Sports medicine and kinesiology students will be on hand to demonstrate anatomy with clay model building and how to tape ankles.
The popular annual Car Show, presented in collaboration with the Wheels and Windmills Car Club, will take place in the west parking lot featuring unique vehicles from around the valley.
On the main campus, visitors will see the junior English students’ Shakespeare in the Park performances on their way to the annual Ornamental Horticulture plant sale near the theater. Lovers of the arts will want to visit the lobby of the Little Theater. The Theater Group will present a Puppet Museum featuring an assemblage of many hand-made puppets, large and small, with photos from the shows they have appeared in over the past five years and brief descriptions of the process and history of each.
Guests will want to stop by the ROP Restaurant kitchen for free pizza samples and cooking technique demonstrations before making their own ice cream in the chemistry lab.
The math department will feature various displays and demonstrations as well as a math puzzles competition, while the English department will present a critical thinking seminar, illuminated manuscripts, and a literary feast.
Prospective students will not want to miss the freshman English Mythbusters presentation, where a panel of freshman students will discuss the myths and realities of the SYHS freshman experience. At the Club Fair near the library, visitors can learn about the school’s many club offerings, meet members of the school board, and join a tour of the campus led by ASB students.
In the new gym, guests can join in the Pickleball tournament or watch from the sidelines.
Throughout the evening, visitors will encounter pop-up singing and dancing performances put on by world language and music students as they move about the campus.
Visitors who attend the event will see why Santa Ynez High School’s focus on critical thinking, innovation, 21st century skills, and hands-on learning makes it one of the top performing schools in the county.
