A screening of Susan Rockefeller's 15 minute short film "Mission of Mermaids" "A Love Letter to the Ocean", the Official Selection 2012 Winner at the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital, will be showcased.
Drones are a popular topic and growing industry, learn about NOAA's plan to use them in the Channel Islands and Hawaii. See a short clip about the environmental application of unmanned vehicles in NOAA's marine monitoring and debris clean-up programs tracking Japan's Tsunami debris. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere a UNESCO Marine Site in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula is threaten by plastic pollution, find out what can be done to help remedy this continuing problem.
Presented by Gail Kvistad Host of "Living Local" Cox TV and Jordan Lerum of Mattel Children's Foundation along with Scott Bull of the UCSB Coastal Fund and SB Surfrider with featured guest speakers on behalf of Susan Rockefeller, Jennifer Schwab, developer of the Sierra Club Green Home "GreenCheck" validation program and the Center for Living Peace's Kelly Smith(good happens.org). This is the first in a new series of community water related events with upcoming events to feature local programs and in Nicaragua programs with the organization Charity Water.
This first collaborative event will take place at Homeplanet Production's Studios in the basement of the historic Balboa Building, 735 State Street, Suite 103, downtown Santa Barbara.
Spencer Barnitz of Spencer the Gardener will be performing his "Organic Gangster" acoustic music and artist Emiliano Campobello will be inviting guests in with his flute music.
Open to families and friends of the sea.
Seven, SB's newest bar and restaurant is sponsoring the event and "After Party" 8pm, 224 Helena St. in the Funk Zone.
