The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is excited to present the Grammy nominated 24 piece Kim Richmond Orchestra in concert on Sunday, February 9 at SOhO from 1 to 4pm. The band, whose latest CD Artistry...A Tribute to Stan Kenton, will also be celebrating the birthday of our late President, Kathryn Stockbridge. Combining the sounds of large ensemble jazz with symphonic colors and textures and led by saxophone soloist Richmond, the band features the expansive instrumentation that includes five woodwinds, four trumpets, three tenor trombones, two French horns, and Latin percussion that you might expect with a Kentonesque orchestra. Leader, Richmond who has played with the bands of Stan Kenton, Claire Fischer, Johnny Mandel, Bill Holman, Bob Florence, and Buddy Rich and many others, has assembled some of the best musicians that LA has to offer. This concert is made possible by the generosity of our honorary members, Lucille and Richard Janssen. Admission to the event is $15 for Society members, $25 for non-members, and $7 for professional musicians and full time students. Tickets are sold ONLY at the door and doors open at 12:30pm. Space is limited so arrive early. Please join us for this rare opportunity to hear a professional big band in Santa Barbara.
