Synopsis:
Director/co-writer Takashi Koizumi and producer Masato Hara, who combined to work with the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa in 1985s RAN, once again unite for ASHITA NO YUIGON (BEST WISHES FOR TOMORROW)-a drama that addresses the truth behind one of the horrific, yet relatively unknown actions that occurred during WW II. Based on the novel "Nagai Tabi (A Long Journey)" by Shohei Ooka, ASHITA is the story of the war crimes trial of Lieutenant General Tasuku Okada (played by veteran actor Makoto Fujita), who without the required military tribunal, executed 38 American POWs for carpet bombing the city of Nagoya during World War II. During the trial, ASHITA delves deep into Okadas reasoning for the bombing and his subsequent efforts to protect his men from certain execution earning the respect of the entire courtroom--especially his defense attorney Joseph Featherstone (played by Santa Barbaras Robert Lesser).
