The Suicide Song (Densen uta)
Rating: NR
Synopsis:
In 1933 Hungarian composer Rezs Seress wrote the song "Gloomy Sunday" as a somber reflection of the musicians mood. A beautifully sad piece of music, the song had the unintended effect of encouraging its listeners to take their own lives - or so the story goes. Now, more than seventy years after "Gloomy Sunday" claimed its first victim, a modern Japanese version seems to have revived the songs lethality. After their friend Kana mysteriously meets her own demise, two girls - Anzu and Riku - decide to investigate the legacy and legitimacy of the "The Suicide Song." Directed by veteran filmmaker and social critic, Masato Harada, THE SUICIDE SONG is a dark exploration of a multicultural urban legend.
