The unprofessional management decision of District Attorney Christine Stanley to name her choice, Joshua Lynn, as Acting D.A. is one of the worst management decisions the County has made lately. Why wasn’t this reviewed by someone/anyone at the County before it was announced? This position should have been filled by someone not running for the position, thus giving both candidates the same advantage.

Should Mr. Lynn win, is it because Ms. Stanley slipped in her choice candidate or was it because he had better qualifications? Should he lose, was it because of backlash from being appointed the heir apparent or because he didn’t have the best skills? We will never know.

Should Ms. Dudley win, is it because of backlash on the Lynn appointment, or because she had better skills? If she loses, was it the cronyism of slipping Mr. Lynn into the position, or her lack of qualifications? Should Ms. Dudley lose, it looks like a win-win lawsuit for her.

Either way, Stanley did a disservice to both her employees and the public. This office should be above reproach. Someone higher up in the county should step in and rescind this appointment to make sure this election is fair. How can we have faith in fair and impartial treatment from this office, when an atmosphere exists promoting such unfair advantage. Looks like the “good ole boy system” is still alive and well at the County. We all lose: Mr. Lynn, Ms. Dudley and the people of Santa Barbara County. Another sad day for the voters.-Betty White
