Twenty-three-year-old Sean Cottrell is being held in county jail
on suspicion of felony drunk driving and hit-and-run; he allegedly
drove into a group of people listening to music on a sidewalk in
Isla Vista last weekend. According to authorities, the UCSB senior
was heading home from the Study Hall bar around 2 a.m. Friday
morning when he lost control of his roommate’s black BMW, jumped
the curb, and struck 11 people at the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde.
After parking the car a short distance away, Cottrell fled the
scene on foot; he was arrested approximately 12 hours later at his
home. Fortunately, the victims’ injuries were reportedly limited to
several bumps and bruises and a broken ankle.
