Oxford University-trained art history veteran Nigel McGilchrist
will give a lecture on how tempera painting was replaced with oil
painting in the 15th century and how oil paint made it possible for
a deep color saturation that tempera paint could not offer.
McGilchrist, who also worked for the Italian government’s Ministry
of Arts, will be at the Santa Barbara Public Library on Sunday,
February 26, at 2 p.m.
