Last-Minute Shows

Three shows were booked at the last minute for this week. The first, on Friday night, January 27, at Velvet Jones, is The 88 , whose catchy, melodic pop on their recent release Over and Over has landed their songs on national television courtesy of such shows as Grey’s Anatomy, Extra, and The O.C. And just last week, they themselves appeared on CBS’s The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Number two is The Spires, who will play Bogart’s Café in La Arcada Court on Saturday, January 28, with The Sympathetics. Then, on Sunday afternoon, longtime Santa Barbara singer Steve Fort will play a set at the Press Room on Ortega Street from 7 p.m. That same night, the three founding members of Animal Liberation Orchestra — namely keyman Zach Gill, bassist Steve Adams, and guitarist Dan Lebowitz — will play an intimate acoustic show at The Mercury Lounge on Sunday, January 29. It might already be sold out, so call now to check.  — MK
