Paul Vercammen, KEYT’s news director and Friday night anchor, was terminated last Tuesday, just days after his news department won an Emmy for best evening newscast. Vercammen’s departure, which was a surprise to many of his co-workers, came a few weeks after new station general manager Cathy Jacquemin assumed direction of Santa Barbara’s first local television station. During his three years at KEYT, Vercammen worked for five chief executives and four general managers. While Vercammen declined to comment, other than to say he’s spending a lot of time attending his kids’ baseball games, others cited a “change of direction” that frequently accompanies new management as the reason for his termination.
