NLRB Rules In Favor of News-Press Employees

Ruling clears road to collective bargaining

A National Labor Relations Board panel ruled 3-0 on 8/17 that the election by Santa Barbara News-Press workers to affiliate with the Teamsters last September was done legally and that objections waged by News-Press management were without merit. Union officials say the announcement means they can now begin negotiating with the News-Press. It remains uncertain whether News-Press owner Wendy McCaw will abide by the NLRB decision or seek to challenge it.
