Representative Lois Capps called the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez “long overdue” and expressed hope that his successor could be independent “from the White House and its political operators.” In a written statement, Capps decried Gonzalez’s legal rationalization of torture. She also stated Gonzales was “unwilling to be honest” in his dealings with Congress.
