Holiday Diode Lights Glow But Don't Further Global Warming
Holiday celebrants can get free strands of light-emitting diodes in exchange for ye olde energy-sucking incandescent holiday bulbs, letting their little lights shine in the darkness without contributing to global warming. And while decorating, don’t forget to raise a glass to Shugi Nakamura, the UCSB professor and pioneer in LED technology who invented white, blue, and green LEDs. The South Coast Energy Effiency Partnership, which is a coalition led by Community Environmental Council and Southern California Edison, while trade one strand of white, pine-cone shaped LED bulbs for a strand or strand of the old kind from Monday, December 3 through December 21 at the following locations: Santa Barbara Central Library, the Community Environmental Council, Westside Community Center, Franklin Community Center, Carpinteria City Hall, and Goleta City Hall.
They will also be exchanged during Goleta’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Goleta Valley Community Center on December 7.
