Bill LaVoie, a longtime veteran of Santa Barbara’s Historic Landmarks Commission, was denied another term because he failed to show up for his application interview with the City Council. LaVoie was valued as a guardian of Santa Barbara’s architectural traditions, but his abrasive style drew complaints. The council denied hydrologist Barry Keller a reappointment to the Water Commission for a similar failure to appear.
