Tonight, June 7, some very exciting local acts are playing a benefit show at the Hub @ UCSB for an extremely worthy cause-Camp Ronald McDonald. Headliners Sugarcult are one of a long line of Santa Barbara bands to blow up into the national scene and have ridden the power-punk-pop wave to ridiculous heights in the last few years, after starting out as just another Santa Barbara rock band and playing long-ago venues like the Living Room (R.I.P.). This will be a good chance to see the band in top form at a semi-intimate local venue, a rarity with all of their high-profile activity in recent years.

Openers The Coral Sea are a promising up-and-coming pop group with just the right combination of sensitive ballads, mid-tempo rockers, and inventive instrumentation to ensure they are on the cusp of a big break. Their song has already been placed on Grey’s Anatomy-which is only the biggest show on television-and they’ve got a tour this summer and a new record on the way. Don’t miss this opportunity to check them out before they get too cool for school (literally). Doors for the show are at 8pm. It’s for a great cause and will make a great warm-up for this weekend’s KJEE Summer Bash.
