Yahoo!The Independent's baby steps toward greener pastures took a turn for the bathrooms last week as (drum roll, please) our outdated office crappers went low-flow. The conversion of our 10 toilets (which was also spurred by a peculiar buildup of muck in the women's rooms) is expected to save us hundreds of dollars annually, while reducing our daily water consumption by about 35 percent. The big shitter swap out is just the latest in a recent run of groovy developments here in Independent-ville, including a full-scale and increasingly successful assault on our waste production (as evidenced by our new recycling dumpster overflowing on a weekly basis, while our teeny-weeny new trash dumpster is happily doing the job of the old one twice its size), an organized assault on our disposable coffee cup addiction, and an increase in Indy staffers biking to work. Next up: The titillating world of can crushers, the possibility of low-flow urinals, and the ever-important investigation of our energy consumption habits.

"big s-----r swap"? I'm surprised that the puckered-anus brigade hasn't make a stink about "filth" on the lead page of the Indy, complaining that it will pollute the unsoiled minds of our youth.
... Ironically, the Indy's pucker-anus web page software won't let me include in this message the word that the Indy published.
