U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer stuck a $30-million appropriation for a flood control project along lower Mission Creek in the latest omnibus water and public works appropriations bill. The bill’s fate remains iffy in the Senate though, with the White House pledging to veto it, citing fiscal constraints. Meanwhile, there’s talk among South Coast officials of pursuing a cheaper version of the federally approved project using the $25 million the county has in reserves.
