Concert For Peace

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s Youth Empowerment Initiative is bringing you its first-ever concert fundraiser, No Nukes! No Wars! A Concert for Peace. Co-sponsored by UCSB’s Associated Students Finance Board, and KCSB, the show will held on Friday, May 25 at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. Tickets are $15.

The event organizers hope to use music and art to promote and spread the message of peace. With the United States maintaining an arsenal of almost 10,000 nuclear weapons, the NAPF hopes to encourage us as a generation to “rise up to demand a world free from the threat of war and free of weapons of mass destruction!”

NAPF’s Youth Empowerment Initiate has recruited four diverse acts – Radio Active, Quinto Sol, Aztlan Underground, and Pussywillow Sparks – to help spread the peaceful message for nuclear disarmament.

Headlining the event is hip hop innovator Radio Active, fresh of the release of his solo album, Sleep or Sell. Radio Active is a world-renown beat boxer, emcee, writer, and painter from Boston, best known for his fresh, soulful live performances. He has garnered national acclaim for his singles, “Rock the Nation” and “We Don’t Stop.”

Blending elements of reggae, rock, and roots music from the Americas, the Caribbean and African, Quinto Sol has been using music as a tool for awareness of socio-political and economic issues since emerging from the artist/activist community of East L.A. in 1994.

Aztlan Underground, a Los Angeles Chicano fusion group, combines elements of rapcore, indigenous music, spoken word, punk, and rock to create a unique sound that transcends all ethnic groups and spreads a message of dignity for indigenous people, all of humanity, and Mother Earth.

Isla Vista’s own one-woman show Pussywillow Sparks – AKA Clitorectomy and the Mutilators – will be opening the event with her self-defined blues-based pop songs for the revolutionary counterculture.
