Costco gas station opponents attacked Goleta city planning staff‘s environmental analysis of the four-island project that would replace 88 parking spaces in the Camino Real Marketplace. Critics charged that the Draft Environmental Impact Report underestimated the number of vehicles that would flock to the discount gas station, as well as the frequency of tanker truck trips needed to replenish the station’s gas supply. Santa Barbara County Association of Government staffers said they were unlikely to approve the station because it’s located in the airport flight path, which would prove catastrophic in the event of a plane crash.
