Fire Doused Near Brubaker Canyon

SB County Fire Returns to Site of Zaca Fire

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department put out a small brushfire that began burning this morning on the northeast corner of where the Zaca Fire was stopped this summer, near Highway 33. Despite the fire technically being in Ventura County, Santa Barbara County Fire was much closer to where it began, near Brubaker Canyon. Fire officials don’t have a cause for the roughly five-acre fire, which began around 5 a.m. this morning, said Capt. Eli Iskow.

The department has also returned to regular daily staffing, a day after adding personnel in anticipation of weather conditions conducive for fires beginning. Weather predictions indication the possibility of sundowner winds and the National Weather Service had issued a Red Flag Alert for the area, so CALFIRE brought in a full strike team of five brush engines and a strike team leader to Goleta until 8 p.m. last night. Because of improving weather conditions, the upstaffing didn’t return today.
