October is Adopt-a-Dog month, and, if you’re in the market for a new best friend, the Santa Barbara Humane Society has plenty of pooches for you to choose from. All their dogs have detailed health and temperament profiles to make finding your perfect match easier, and their reduced dog adoption fee of $49 includes the following: spay/neuter surgery, current vaccinations, complete health screening, a temperament evaluation, background/personality history, a starter packet of food, and a booklet and CD about proper dog care. The shelter, a nonprofit organization, provides excellent care for their doggies, but there’s no substitute for a permanent home. For info, call 964-4777, or stop by 5399 Overpass Road, Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
