Pat McKinley, second-in-command at the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s office, announced that he will retire at the end of June 2008. McKinley has worked for the D.A.’s office since June 1, 1970, and his professionalism and wicked humor are credited for maintaining the department’s morale and stability over the years. Of his retirement party, McKinley said, “I will arrive like Peter O’Toole from Lawrence of Arabia. I will come riding up on an Arabian nag with a rum-and-coke in one hand and a polo mallet in the other.” McKinley does not play polo.
