Radiohead

It was confirmed on Monday morning in a press release sent out by Nasty Little Man PR: England’s beloved rock superstars Radiohead will be coming to the Santa Barbara Bowl on August 28, which, at least currently, marks the last stop on their 2008 summer tour. And according to the press release, pre-sale tickets will be released on April 9 and regular sales will begin this Saturday, April 12. (Nederlander, the company that effectively runs the Bowl, had not confirmed this news by the time of this posting.)

UPDATE, 11:50 a.m.: Nederlander has confirmed and announced a 6:30 p.m. showtime. Tickets will range from $43 to $62, plus service charges, and can be purchased this Saturday by visiting Ticketmaster.com, calling 583-8700, or heading to any registered vendor, namely F.Y.E., Macy’s, Ritmo Latino, the Arlington Theatre, and the Santa Barbara Bowl’s box office.

This will be the first time that Radiohead has brought their orchestral, ethereal rock to the Bowl since the two sold-out shows they played in 2001. Seven years has been much too long to wait for many Santa Barbara fans, and the show will certainly sell out within an hour, if not minutes. The band is touring America for the first time since the release of last year’s In Rainbows, the album they used to buck the money-grubbing music industry by selling it via their website as a digital download for whatever price buyers wanted to pay. The success of that venture is unknown, as the band did not release figures. However, when it was officially released as an album, it rose to the top of the world’s charts immediately. It is the band’s seventh album, and represents two years of production, the longest gap between studio releases in their 15-year-plus career.
