City 12-24

City and county officials attended the official unveiling of a new traffic signal at the corner of Foothill Road and Cieneguitas Avenue on 12/18 that was installed to make the intersection safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, including students at nearby La Colina Junior High School. In May, 90-year-old Irene Wilton had been struck by a car at the intersection. (/traffic1224)

The Pacific Pride Foundation, Santa Barbara’s gay advocacy organization, announced on 12/20 that it had created of a new group, the Strategic Alliance for Marriage Equality (SAME), to focus on strategies to grant Californians same-sex marriage rights. The announcement came during a candlelight vigil protesting Proposition 8 and encouraging Santa Barbara city leaders to ask the state Supreme Court to strike the measure. SAME is holding a town hall meeting on marriage equality on 1/14 at the Central Public Library’s Faulkner Gallery.
