The Waterfront Department got permission from the Santa Barbara City Council to install a solar thermal unit at Marina One’s restroom, which currently is equipped with an electric water heater for its six showers. At a cost of $23,645, the unit will heat the contents of a 175-gallon tank to 160 degrees. By halving the use of electricity, the unit will reduce carbon emissions by 10.9 metric tons annually.
