According to County Fire Captain Kurt Warner, three engine crews and a helicopter were needed to hoist a man and his tractor out of the Santa Maria River at around 8 a.m. on 1/5. The man had driven his tractor across the river to an island in the middle of the river, but on the return trip the water was much deeper. The man was rescued-scared, but uninjured.
